Round Three

The third officially-sanctioned debate administered by the Republican National Committee will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Miami. That much we already knew, along with the news that under the rules set forth by the RNC, the only candidates that would meet fundraising and polling requirements would be Trump, DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and Haley.  Trump already says he’s not going, and Ramaswamy is strongly suggesting he might skip it as well.

The news this week is that the RNC has selected its broadcast partners—NBC News will handle the TV coverage, presumably including their cable channels…the Salem Radio Network will be the radio partner…and as has been the case for the other debates, Rumble will be the livestream provider. The fourth partner in the Miami debate is the Republican Jewish Coalition.

Salem paired up with CNN to broadcast debates prior to the 2016 election, and you heard Salem’s coverage of the 2020 general election debates here on KXEL.

Some on the right joked that the way Debate #2 went, it seemed like NBC was running it…a reference to the questions asked by the Fox Business and Univision hosts.

The confirmation that Salem is the radio partner gives us here a dilemma…we are likely eligible to bring you the event live on KXEL, just as we were due to our ties to Fox for the first two events…but should we?

If it’s as much of a train wreck as the first two events, with candidates babbling over one another and no comments of substance being heard, it’s sort of a waste of your time. Similarly, if it’s only DeSantis and Haley…is that worth it, either?

Frankly, I’m still thinking about it. I’m inclined to air it, because you never know…it could accidentally turn out to be worth it. But if you don’t care about it, then there’s no point.

So…as you already have through a recent poll question of the day, let me know your thoughts on the topic, please. We have time to decide, of course…but as always, your input is most welcome.
