CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids Police identified the two men shot and killed on the city’s northeast side on October 5th. Police say 21-year-old Myron Snyder and 21-year-old Maurice Brown were killed. They are both from Cedar Rapids. Officers found the victims in the parking lot of 3960 Sherman Street northeast on Thursday night when they responded to shots being fired. Both Snyder and Brown died at the scene. A third person suffered what police called serious injuries at the time and was taken to the hospital. Police have not made any arrests in this case, and say they have no other information to give at this time.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The man charged with killing an Algona police officer has pleaded not guilty. The Iowa State Patrol issued a Blue Alert after the Sept. 13th shooting, which happened in the 100 block of South Minnesota Street in Algona.  Officer Kevin Cram was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was a 10-year veteran in law enforcement. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota said several agencies helped to arrest the accused shooter, 43-year-old Kyle Ricke. Ricke was wanted by police on harassment charges at the time of the shooting. Ricke was extradited back to Iowa for a court appearance in Kossuth County. The judge raised Ricke’s bond from $1 million to $2 million cash only. His trial is scheduled to begin on Dec. 12.

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Sac County Attorney dismissed a charge filed against an Iowa State Senator stemming from an incident during RAGBRAI. Sen. Adrian Dickey, of Packwood, Iowa, was arrested on July 24 in Sac County after officers working RAGBRAI said they were trying to move a large group of people who were blocking the road. In a criminal complaint, the officer said one of the people, who was later identified as Dickey, refused to move and advised the officer to arrest him. Sen. Dickey was charged with interference with official acts. On Friday, Oct. 6, the Sac County Attorney dismissed that charge. “It was a total misunderstanding and I was innocent,” Sen. Dickey said in a press release. “It is typical of today’s news outlets to pile on and assume someone’s guilt without knowing all of the facts. The truth is it would not have been easy to be a law enforcement officer on that hot day. I was not drinking and I was not a part of the party that was taking place. I was only walking my bike on this short part of a gravel road attempting to get on the bike trail.” Sen. Dickey went on to say the incident has not changed his support for law enforcement.

HARDIN COUNTY, Iowa (KCCI) – An Iowa man died after being struck by a gunshot while hunting coyotes on Sunday. 53-year-old Mark Arends of Alden, Iowa was hunting with friends on private property in Hardin County Sunday night. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, “the hunters were separated by several hundred yards when, around 8 p.m., Arends was struck by a single rifle shot.” He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The State Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy as part of the investigation.
