CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – At around 6:37 p.m. Sunday, Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the 6800 block of Boxwood Ln. NE. When crews arrived, they discovered a detached garage was fully involved. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it was able to spread to other homes in the area. No medical treatment was required.

WASHINGTON, Iowa (KCRG) – The Washington Police Department says it’s asking for help from the public, after they say there was a motor vehicle accident and shots fired near the intersection of East Madison Street and South 9th Avenue. Police responded to the scene around 10:20pm on Saturday. Officers found an abandoned vehicle with extensive front end damage near the intersection, and also found several spent shell casings nearby. Officials say witnesses saw a lone male shooter with a hooded sweatshirt exit the vehicle and fire shots in the direction of a second vehicle, before leaving on foot. They say someone came forward early Sunday morning saying they were involved in the incident, and had gunshot damage to their vehicle. No injuries were reported. Washington police say this is an active, ongoing investigation, and believe it is a targeted incident with no ongoing risk to the public.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Powerball ticket worth $2 million was purchased in Eastern Iowa. The lucky ticket was purchased at Casey’s in Tiffin. All five white balls matched Saturday evening’s drawing, but missed the Powerball, making it worth $1 million. The person who bought the ticket did purchase the Power Play option, which multiplies the prize at the Match 5 Level to $2 million. It was one of two tickets across the U.S. to win a $2 Million prize. The other ticket was purchased in Maine. Saturday’s winning numbers were 47-54-57-60-65 and Powerball 19. The Power Play number was 3. Since no one matched all six numbers, Monday’s drawing climbs to an estimated $1.55 billion.

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) -Des Moines Palestinian and Jewish communities are both shaken by attacks in Israel and a declaration of war by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “To see this level of destruction, it’s almost as if there was a 9/11 that happened in Israel today. Everyone there is hurting, everyone there is suffering emotionally and many people there are suffering physically from what’s going on,” Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines executive director Jarad Bernstein. The catastrophic attack landed on the Jewish Holiday Shemini Atzeret, a time Bernstein said is “meant to be joyous.” The Jewish Federation of greater Des Moines is raising money to provide emergency assistance in Israel.
