Fair Poll
Each year, the Iowa Secretary of State offers Iowa State Fair attendees the chance to vote in a poll, at their booth in the Varied Industries Building. What races are surveyed depends, of course, on the year.
This year, the focus was on the presidential race…with numbers that again tend to mirror the scientific polls you may see.
The Secretary of State’s poll is not scientific; yet, as Secretary Paul Pate notes, historically it has been a fairly accurate indicator of official election results.
In the race for president on the Democrat side, Joe Biden scored 67 percent in the poll, with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., tallying 19 percent and Marianne Williamson at 14 percent…not too far off national numbers.
As for the GOP, Donald Trump tallied 42 percent, with Ron DeSantis coming in second at 15 percent. Tim Scott scored well, at 11 percent, with Vivek Ramaswamy close behind at 9 percent.
As opposed to years long in the past, this year’s survey was electronic…voters used iPads to record their choice.
But now, the numbers that really matter…not choices for president…choices for fair food.
Pork Chop on a Stick led the way with 17 percent, followed closely by those Barksdale State Fair Cookies and the traditional corn dog, each at nearly 16 percent.
That’s a ticket I can get behind.
