Here Comes The Third Party

One of D.C.’s favorite games is guessing what West Virginia U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin will do. Will he run for re-election to the Senate next year? Will he ditch the Democrat party and become an independent, or even a Republican? Will he challenge Joe Biden for the Democrat nomination for president? Or what about a third party?

We know he’s been tied to the “No Labels” organization in the past. But now comes word that he and his daughter have been pitching to donors a $100 million centrist project that Fox News is reporting would target the “political homeless”—apparently the Manchins’ phrase.

54-year-old Heather Manchin is the former chief executive of EpiPen-maker Mylan…she became the first woman to run a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company back in 2012. She registered a politically active nonprofit under the name Americans Together in late July, and says they’ll be hiring staff in the coming weeks.

She says, “We have been thinking about what can be done to bring people together,” saying Americans Together will give “the politically homeless a voice” at a time the two major parties are “normalizing the extremes on the fringes.”

A memo is circulating saying the group will creating a coalition to “mobilize the middle” and advocate a shift to the political center.

Recall that around the same time last month, Sen. Manchin told a West Virigina radio station he was seriously considering leaving the Democrat Party.

This new project is not affiliated with No Labels, which has talked about fielding a presidential candidate in 2024. Potentially, Americans Together might have similar plans.

Totally agree that each major party has moved so far to the extreme that at least a third of Americans feel they have nowhere to go…which is why they vote for Rs one time, Ds the next, and the agenda for the country swings wildly from right to left to right again.

Is this an answer? Far too soon to tell…but wouldn’t it be great if the swamp uniparty’s hold on power could be dislodged, at least a little?
