New Hampshire Stunner

Four years ago, the Republicans had an incumbent running for president and while there were a couple of declared opponents, neither gained traction and the national party ignored them.

Today, the Democrats have an incument running for president and again, there are a couple of declared opponents. But it’s getting harder for the national party to ignore them.

Witness this new poll from New Hampshire. John Zogby Strategies reports that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., now has 31 percent of the support of likely New Hampshire primary voters. The poll was commissioned by a super PAC supporting Kennedy.

President Biden leads with 46% to Kennedy’s 31%, with Marianne Williamson taking 7%…and fulling 16% are undecided. In a head-to-head matchup, Kennedy narrows Biden’s lead to only 8 points, 49% to 41%.

This news comes on the heels of a previous Zogby poll which showed Kennedy gaining rapidly in the Biden campaign’s flagship state of South Carolina, with 24% support.

So at what point are the Democrats going to have to face the fact that the incumbent has credible challengers? How long are they going to be able to ignore poll numbers like these?

Or will it force the power brokers hands into selecting a new favorite in order to keep their control of the system?
