CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -Two people in Cedar Rapids were displaced after a fire caused extensive damage to their home Saturday night. Firefighters responded to the 5700 block of Sanden Road Northeast just before 9 p.m. No one was home at the time of the fire. Crews say the roof and siding of the home is damaged and the porch has extensive fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) -First responders took a Central City man to a local hospital after officials say he accidentally drove his car into a cornfield. The photos in the video above are from the Linn County Sheriff’s department. The car was fairly far into the corn. Crews responded to Feather Ridge Road and Toddville Road just before 8:20 Saturday night. They say the driver failed to make a curve and left the road, coming to rest in that farm field. Officials say his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The driver was cited for failure to maintain control.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) -Around a dozen local non profits got the chance to not only connect with the community they serve, but with each other as well. The Corridor Community Action Network hosted its annual CCAN-Con. The event brings together local groups to connect with each other. Groups can also talk with people who may need their services, and get the word out. The event also featured live music

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – The Marion Public Library hosted its Grand Opening Saturday, nine months after its soft opening in November of last year. Stories about making connections is exactly what Library Director Bill Carroll wants to hear. “We are a community space where the community can come together,” said Carroll. “The library has become a lot more than books.” It was finishing the extra, specialized areas that led to the wait for the “official” opening after doors first opened in November. Carroll said he appreciates what he called Marion’s patience in enduring the long process to get to celebrating this new location. After a derecho, a temporary location, and lots of construction, the new Marion Library is finally complete for people to enjoy.
