IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The University of Iowa and Mercy Iowa City have signed a letter of intent for the university to acquire all the operating facilities and key assets of Mercy for a proposed $20 million as the hospital faces financial struggles. Leaders with Mercy Iowa City said the plan is to transition the hospital and its employees to UI Health Care, preserving the services Mercy Iowa City provides, along with preserving its doctors and employees. The hospital remains open and its physicians and employees continue to provide care for patients amid the transition. The plan involves Mercy filing a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Cedar Rapids man was arrested in Indiana in connection to a fatal shooting on June 11 in southeast Cedar Rapids. U.S. Marshals said 23-year-old Denzel Wilson is wanted in Linn County on first degree murder charges. Investigators said Wilson had fled the state, but they were able to track him to the 4000 block of Van Buren Street in Gary, Indiana. U.S. Marshals said Wilson surrendered to the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force at 8 a.m. on Monday. Wilson will be extradited to Iowa. Cedar Rapids Police confirm it is connected to the shooting death of 23-year old Kenyauta Vesey-Keith on Sunday, June 11. The shooting happened in the 1300 block of 1st Avenue southeast. Officers found Vesey-Keith outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the hospital. Police called the shooting a targeted incident. He faces charges of first degree murder, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, going armed with intent, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa State Patrol said one person died in a UTV crash in Allamakee County on Friday afternoon. The state patrol said the UTV was on Walleye Lane heading for River Road when it hit several trees and a landscaping rock. Jeffry Kelley, of Waterville, died. The crash remains under investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Five Seasons Ski Team won the team title at this year’s Division 2 Show Ski National Championships in Loves Park, Illinois. Five teams competed for the Division 2 show ski national title. The tournament features competitive show water-skiing, with each club having an hour to present a theatrical performance. Judges then award points for originality, presentation and execution. The Five Season Ski Team said it also won awards for best dock and equipment, tow boat driving, sound crew, showmanship and production.
