Selling Candidates

If you thought advertising and advertising spending tied to the 2024 election would be going down…well, let’s face it…no one thought that.

The global marketing services network Stagwell and its media agency Assembly gave a prediction of the 2024 election cycle during a recent gathering of media groups and digital publishers.

They believe the election cycle ad market will top $12 billion. That’s “billion” with a “B”.

The digital marketing efforts now mean an exponentially greater number of options…online and offline channels alike. And those political campaigns are at the forefront of targeting techniques and innovation…with tactics that are researched and developed for politics but will find their way to commercials selling products like cars and shampoo soon enough.

But even though digital is the shiny object out there…the advisers at the networking session suggested maintaining traditional broadcast outlets…because for all its issues, it still has the most reliable data to show impact.

And this may not sit well with you…the advice was to start early and “educate” voters as opposed to waiting until the end of the election cycle for more traditional “get out the vote” efforts.

So look for those ads to keep coming…not only on the media outlets you’ve used for a long time…but increasingly, in digital areas that to this point had been left alone. No more.
