Is it Real, or is it AI?

Remember the ad campaign at the height of use of cassette tapes…Memorex wanted to suggest that their recording tape was so good, you could not tell that it was a recording, and they used the tag line, “Is it live…or is it Memorex?”

Now, we have a new problem… “Is it real, or is it AI?”

A super PAC supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis for president, Never Back Down, is funding an anti-Donald Trump ad and using AI to replicate Trump’s voice.

You’ve heard that Trump is not happy with Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, since she is remaining neutral in the Iowa Caucuses, and he feels she owes it to him to endorse him. He posted words to that effect on his Truth Social platform.

Iowa native Jennifer Jacobs and her Bloomberg team are reporting that the ad includes the artificial voice of Trump reading the Truth Social post, including that he no longer invites Reynolds to his campaign events.

The PAC says the ad will cost seven figures, and will debut shortly before tonight’s Fox News town hall event with Trump, hosted by Sean Hannity, in Cedar Rapids.

The Trump team says DeSantis should pay attention to his own campaign, which laid off various staffers late last week. For his part, the Florida governor said he would consider Reynolds as his running mate after winning the nomination.

All this is interesting strategy…especially since Reynolds has an 86 percent approval rate among Iowa Republicans…and that’s according to a Register Iowa Poll.

I’m looking forward to hearing the ad, simply to see how lifelike it is…I’m betting the technology is so good that we won’t be able to believe anything we hear. And that’s more scary than any ad any PAC could place.
