Dry conditions across the state are prompting burn bans in several eastern Iowa counties. Five eastern Iowa counties are under those bans–Grundy, Delaware, Cedar, Muscatine, and Scott counties. None of those bans have a lift date scheduled.

After years of planning and two years of construction, the newly designed Tower Terrace Road interchange is officially open. Hiawatha city officials and the Iowa DOT held a ribbon cutting to announce the new “diverging diamond” traffic design off of Interstate 380. While this newly designed interchange is finished and available to drive on, there’s still some work that needs to be done that could cause crews to close off a small part of the roadway just days from now.

Another former tenant of the collapsed Davenport apartment building has filed a lawsuit. That collapse happened back in May. Three people died, and many others were injured. Broc Nelson, a former tenant, filed a lawsuit earlier this week. He said no one in the building was made aware of any warning signs before the collapse. He said he was angry and overwhelmed after having escaped the building with nothing but his phone and keys. This is the fifth lawsuit against the city and building owner.

Just months after Dubuque’s airport had no commercial flights, it’s now expanding service. Avelo Airlines announced it will add flights from Dubuque to Las Vegas. That’s in addition to their flights to and from Orlando. It was almost exactly a year ago American Airlines announced it would end flights between Dubuque and Chicago, temporarily leaving Dubuque with no commercial flights. The new flights to Vegas will start September 13, with flights twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

RAGBRAI organizers say they’re expecting a record number of cyclists this year. Next month is the 50th year of the ride, and people from all 50 states and 20 countries are expected to participate. RAGBRAI director Matt Phippen said he’s expecting a new record number of cyclists riding from Ames to Des Moines. He’s not giving a set number, but said there will be more than any previous year.
