Meet the Candidates
Part of your job as an Iowan is to learn about the candidates and participate in our First in the Nation presidential precinct caucuses.
Part of our job as a radio station is to bring as many of them to you through our 50,000-watt statewide signal as possible. To that end, no fewer than three GOP candidates—Asa Hutchinson, Perry Johnson, and Nikki Haley—will be joining me in our downtown Waterloo studio within a 24-hour period ending this afternoon.
But we want to give you an even greater chance to interact with candidates…so that’s why KXEL is part of a new effort called Iowa Talking Points.
The idea is to host conversations with newsmakers, candidates, and government officials on a variety of topics. You can be part of the studio audience, you can watch the live video stream or watch afterwards on your schedule, and you can hear these special programs on KXEL. I’ve been asked to serve as moderator for the series, and it’s my privilege to do so.
There are other partners in the venture, and we’ll talk about them another time. But you’ll find that this is the only statewide conversation of issues and candidates that will appear cross-platform: on the air, in print, and on line.
And we’re wasting no time…our first event is a week from tomorrow…Friday, May 26, from 4 to 5 p.m. As will always be the case, we’ll hold these in the television studio within the fine Mudd Advertising complex in Cedar Falls. And our first program will include GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, in person.
All the details are still to be finalized, and we’ll share those as we go along…but for now, if you want to start your Memorial Day weekend off in a unique way, go to iowatalkingpoints.com and reserve your free tickets. Again, they are free…but you have to reserve one so we make sure we have room for folks…it’s first come, first served.
Go to iowatalkingpoints.com and reserve your tickets for our first in-person candidate event with Vivek Ramaswamy…and be sure to listen for when Iowa Talking Points will air here on KXEL.
We’re excited about the possibilities of this new partnership…and excited to have you along for the ride.
