Pardon Him

There’s apparently some dispute in the White House between aides to the president, and legal counsel for Hunter Biden; this comes as the rumor mill swirls that the son of the president might be indicted on any of the numerous offenses he memorialized on that laptop.

The president himself again this past weekend said publicly that his son had done nothing wrong. Apparently, period…ever…no allegation was presented, but the blanket denial was again used.

Here’s a quick an easy way for the president to resolve all the controversy concerning his son: issue a full presidential pardon for any and all acts done prior to the current date.

If he’s so convinced that Hunter did nothing wrong, then the best way to insulate him from unfair court proceedings is to issue a pardon, and everything goes away. After all, many of these allegations came during a time when Hunter was dealing with drug addiction and can’t be held accountable. Well, the drug possession stuff itself is a violation of law…and the very real addiction was also at a time when he was brokering deals and meetings around the world tied to the family name…but no matter.

Any criminal prosecution of the First Son will no doubt get in the way of things the Biden Administration wants to do while in office, not to mention that silly election coming up. And embarrassing—and perhaps criminal—information about the Biden family business might also come out, and a pardon will eliminate that chance. (Although that civil lawsuit in Arkansas over child support will very likely lead to full disclosure about those intricate family financial dealings, and a pardon won’t help the family there.)

I have not heard anyone seriously claim that this is under consideration. But from a strictly political standpoint, better to do it now and avoid the spectacle of a public trial at a variety of levels; plus it’s far enough before the November 2024 general election that any negative reaction to a pardon will have faded.

Besides, what good is having the power of the pardon, if not to use it to help supporters, friends, and family members?
