Chatty Co-Workers
Many folks worked in an office setting prior to the pandemic…then worked remotely…and increasingly, they are back in the common workspace. But that time away has meant certain things they did not notice or tolerated before are now front and center annoyances.
A group known as Preply surveyed Americans on the topic, and found 95 percent of us has a coworker who talks too much.
By the way, around a radio station, that number is like a thousand percent…sort of an occupational hazard.
Here are some interesting points:
22 percent said politics is one of the most annoying topics that those chatty co-workers bring up…the third most annoying topic, in fact. What was most annoying? Company gossip.
A talkative co-worker has prevented 71 percent of respondents from getting work done…that’s nearly three-quarters of us.
Nearly two-thirds of us, 62 percent, say we don’t enjoy working with chatty co-workers–who, on average, spend 90 minutes of the work day…well, just talking.
The five names of the most chatty co-workers are Sarah, Jenn, John, Kathy, and Michelle…four of the five are female names, for whatever that is worth.
Near as I can tell, we don’t have anyone with those names working in my office…but I tend to keep my door closed most the time anyway. Maybe more of us should.
