From the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:

Iowa lawmakers will work on a bill later today to fix a mistake that could cost taxpayers millions. The mistake comes from a tax bill lawmakers passed in 2021. It currently has Iowa set to overcharge property taxpayers by $127 million. Republicans and Democrats are working together to make sure that money is never collected. But some worry the bill to correct the error could lead to budget cuts for police, fire and emergency management at the local level.

Dubuque Police say they have several leads to investigate after someone shot and killed a 31-year-old man. The shooting happened on Rhomberg Avenue around 12:45 yesterday morning. Police have not identified the victim and have not made any arrests.

One man is dead after the car he was in was hit by another vehicle that went out of control on Linn County’s Springville Road at Schmidt Lane. The crash happened at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon. The victim has not been identified. The driver of the car that lost control, 31-year-old Zachary Twachtmann of Anamosa, and his passenger were treated for injuries.

Jury selection will stretch into a second day later this morning in the trial of Stanley Donahue. He’s charged with shooting Linn County Sheriff’s Deputy Will Halverson at a Casey’s in Coggon in June of 2021. Donahue is charged with robbery and attempted murder. Police say he ran from the Casey’s after the shooting in June of 2021. After a 12-hour manhunt, he was arrested along Highway 13 near Coggon. Donahue’s attorney asked for a change of venue twice, but a judge denied both requests, keeping the trial in Linn County.

Tuesday was the second day in a row where students and staff at Dubuque Hempstead High School have faced an anonymous threat at the school. Classes were still held, but modified as police searched the grounds and found nothing.
