MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – At approximately 2:16 p.m. Wednesday, Marion Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 100 at East Post Road. Police say a semi tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on Highway 100 when it struck a passenger car broadside. The passenger car was turning eastbound onto Highway 100 from the southbound turn lane of East Post Road when it was struck by the semi. The driver of the passenger car died at the scene. The name of the driver was not immediately made public. The driver of the semi has been cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – Starting January 14th, Avelo Airlines will temporarily relocate its Dubuque Regional Airport Flights to Cedar Rapids’ Eastern Iowa Airport. The airline says it will relocate its flights until Dubuque is able to secure the necessary TSA approval of its airport security plan. Avelo is contacting impacted Customers about the airport change. Each Customer will receive a $100 Avelo Travel Fund credit for use on future Avelo flights. Customers can also reschedule their flight to a future date at no extra cost or cancel for a full refund.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Mega Millions prize has grown again to an estimated $1.35 billion after there was no winner of the lottery’s latest giant jackpot. The numbers drawn late Tuesday night were: 7, 13, 14, 15, 18 and gold Mega Ball 9. Mega Millions says the prize for the next drawing on Friday night is the second highest in the game’s history. There have been 25 drawings over three months since the last time a player matched all six numbers and claimed the jackpot. The estimated $1.35 billion jackpot prize would only be distributed to a winner who chooses an annuity paid over 29 years. Nearly all jackpot winners take a cash payout, which for Friday night’s drawing is an estimated $707.9 million.
OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — Police and hospital officials say a certified nurse practitioner who died of a drug overdose sexually assaulted at least nine female patients who were sedated or unconscious. Police say the assaults at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center were discovered during an investigation into the death of 27-year-old Devin Michael Caraccio, of Centerville, in October 2022. An autopsy found Caraccio died of an accidental overdose at the hospital. After his death, investigators found videos and photographs on Caraccio’s cellphone showing him sexually assaulting the patients in 2021 and 2022. The patients were sedated or unconscious when they were assaulted. Police say they believe Caraccio acted alone.
