More people injured from traffic accidents are testing positive for more than one drug in their system. That’s a finding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which found about 56-percent of people seriously injured or killed tested positive for at least one drug, with 20-percent positive for more than one drug. The most common drug was marijuana, with alcohol a close second. The University of Iowa is studying the statistics to find out if there are ways those numbers can be reduced.

A man has been sentenced to 5 years probation for stealing money from his dad’s bank accounts in Dubuque. 28-year-old Jesse Hingtgen was sentenced after pleading guilty to a charge of first-degree theft. Court documents show his dad reported a theft on December 9, 2020. That’s after seeing reduced money in his savings and I-R-A accounts. Account records show transfers were made to nine other bank accounts. He’ll face 10 years in prison if he violates his probation.

Police say they’ve tracked down the man responsible for breaking into and damaging a Riverside restaurant five months ago. 35-year-old Travis Lennox of Ottumwa faces burglary, theft and criminal mischief charges after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the July break-in caused considerable damage to the La Chiva Loka restaurant. That restaurant is back open after initially closing after the break-in.

Governor Kim Reynolds has appointed Brandon Schrock of North Liberty as a district associate judge in Judicial District 6. Schrock serves as a staff attorney at the Linn County Advocate. He fills a vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of District Associate Judge Deborah Farmer Minot.

Peosta is moving forward with plans to renovate its community center. The City Council has approved a $2.5 million dollar contract to Tri-Con General Construction. Changes to the center include more offices, updated city council chambers, and the addition of a 2-story elevator. The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
