WATERLOO, Iowa (KXEL) – The City of Waterloo has a new Police Chief. Veteran WPD officer Joe Leibold was named chief during Monday’s city council meeting. He had served as interim chief since Joel Fitzgerald’s departure this past summer. Leibold was assistant chief, and has been with the department since 1990. Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart swore Leibold in on Monday night, and said Leibold has all the accolades to succeed as Chief.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On Nov. 17th, police were called to Lincoln Elementary School after staff found a gummy inside a student’s lunch pail. The student told school staff that his mother gives the gummy to him once in the morning and that he is to take a second one after lunch. Officials used a THC testing strip and found the gummy was positive for THC. 51-year-old Donna Lavoie was contacted and she came to the school. Lavoie informed police that it was a THC gummy that she bought from a store in Dubuque that she gives to help with her child’s “behavioral issues.” Lavoie was charged with Child Endangerment.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) – The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) is on track to record its second busiest year since 2019. The announcement comes in the wake of anticipated travel increase at the airport. Marty Lenss, CID Director, said, “When comparing available seats in the market for the same Thanksgiving travel period in 2019 (Monday – Thursday), compared to this year, we have eight percent more seats this year. In addition, we are seeing much larger aircraft than in 2019. The average number of seats per departure is at 109 per flight. In 2019 that number was 78 seats per flight.” That is a 37% increase. “The airlines are removing most of the smaller, 50-seat regional jets from their fleets, replacing them with larger mainline aircraft”, said Lenss. “What we are seeing is that our airline partners continue to invest in the CID market – and the region’s passengers are responding. It is essential people use CID to not only maintain the air service we have, but to show airlines there are opportunities here to add service.”
