The Announcement
It’s supposed to happen tonight at 8 p.m. Iowa time…but knowing the person speaking and his love of raising expectations, setting a mood of anticipation, etc., it may well not come for at least 30 minutes beyond the scheduled start time.
The 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, will officially declare himself to be running to become the 47th President of the United States.
Obviously, the worst kept secret in the history of secrets, because he’s been running since he left office less than two years ago.
And that will no doubt increase the resolve of the 46th President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden, Jr., to run for a second term. It’s been said by many that should Trump not be in the field, Biden might be talked out of it; after all, he turns 80 on Sunday, and while age alone is not the determining factor, we’ve seen his decline on full display. But given Biden’s white-hot hatred for all things Trump, he’s bound and determined to slay the MAGA dragon once again.
Can anyone tell me they really are looking forward to two full years of a Trump v. Biden campaign? Granted, we’ve seemingly been in one non-stop since early 2020.
It’s not my place to say who should or should not run, or to tell you who to select. I do wish the Trump announcement would be delayed until after we know who won the 2022 midterm election, because the announcement takes the focus away from that. Why not on January 20, 2023…two years from the next Inauguration Day? It has a bit of a hook to it, and gets us past the last election, plus the holidays, with a few days of breathing room.
But then it wouldn’t be Trump.
