CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On November 4th, 2022, Cedar Rapids Community School District staff were made aware of a student who posed a security threat on or near the Washington High School campus. Staff immediately notified the on-site Cedar Rapids Police Department School Resource Officer and implemented established protocols for the situation. Staff and the SRO determined the student was not on campus. The juvenile male in question was located off-campus by Cedar Rapids patrol officers. He was found in possession of a handgun and ammunition. The handgun was reported stolen in a separate, earlier incident.The investigation is ongoing.

FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – On November 4th, at approximately 9:30 pm, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office executed 6 different drug house warrants stemming from an investigation. A multitude of law enforcement agencies came together to execute the warrants simultaneously. 12 individuals were taken into custody. Multiple Drug Seizures, Firearms, and approximately $4000.00 in US Currency were seized. Law enforcement found approximately 1.25 pounds of marijuana, approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine, long guns, a pistol, wax and liquid, multiple types of prescription pills and packaged pills, and paraphernalia. Over 100 charges in total have been filed ranging from possession of methamphetamine/intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana/intent to distribute marijuana, possession of other schedule substance/intent to deliver other schedule substance, unlawful possession of prescriptions/intent to deliver, drug tax stamp violations, Interference, and other violations.

FAIRFAX, Iowa (KCRG) – On Monday, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 800 block of Eagle Drive. Responders arrived and discovered that the driver of a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas turned into a lot and struck an electrical box on the property, causing it to arc, which in turn caught the vehicle on fire. The driver and a juvenile were the only occupants of the vehicle. They escaped without injury. Firefighters stood by while Alliant Energy turned off the power to the area, so that crews could extinguish the fire safely. The fire caused some damage to a nearby business.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Kirkwood Community College President Dr. Lori Sundberg will retire next fall. The college made the announcement in a press release on Monday, crediting Dr. Sundberg for her leadership and guidance amid the 2020 pandemic and derecho. Dr. Sundberg is the college’s fifth president and the first female to hold role in the college’s history. She took over the role in 2018. The college said Dr. Sundberg plans to remain in the role through Kirkwood’s accreditation visit with the Higher Learning Commission next October. A nationwide search for a new president is expected to begin in the coming months.
