He Did That

You’ve heard about the stickers that folks were pasting on gas pumps…the ones that show a picture of Joe Biden pointing to the amount you’re paying for gas and the phrase “I Did That!”

Folks on the left object and say rising gas prices are not his fault. But those same folks aren’t shy about claiming credit for what seems to be good news, and the folks running the White House Twitter account are no different.

“Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership,” they tweeted proudly.

It’s true, Social Security retirement benefits increase next year by 8.7 percent, in fact.

But since the Nixon era, benefit increases are tied to the cost of living and inflation. That came from an act of Congress, not this president. In fact, it was before he was even in Congress.

Of all things, the official Twitter fact checkers flagged the post, embarrassing the White House by adding a Twitter disclaimer noting the facts and full context. That ultimately led the White House to delete the post…of course, not before lots of folks on the right saw and retweeted it with the warning.

In one respect, that huge increase in Social Security is indeed due to Biden’s leadership…his poor handling of the economy has led to forty-year record inflation. So thanks to this administrations failures, retirees will get more money.

But that’s hardly something to tweet about.
