IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – One person is dead following an early morning shooting in Iowa City. Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the H-Bar, 220 South Van Buren Street, for a report of multiple shots fired in an alley. When police arrived they found an adult male had been shot, he was taken to an area hospital where he later died. No other information has been released at this time. Investigators are asking anyone in the area with security cameras to save their footage and contact Iowa City Police. Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about this case. An investigation is ongoing.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Noreen Bush, the superintendent of the Cedar Rapids School District, has died after a more than two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. The district made the announcement on Sunday. “We will miss her caring soul, delightful spirit, and strong dedication to the Cedar Rapids Community School District,” David Tominsky, on behalf of the school board, said, in a statement. “Noreen led the Cedar Rapids Community School District with compassion for every learner and strength in making important decisions. She was admirably known for her leadership and hard work, along with her caring smile and laughter that flowed to all who were blessed to know her.” The district said that grief support services will be available for district staff.

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KCRG) – A combination of low humidity and strong winds likely lead to fire spreading across parts of rural Muscatine County on Friday afternoon and evening. At around 10:44 a.m. on Friday, the Nichols and West Liberty Fire Departments were sent to a report of a fire in the vicinity of 1980 Mound Avenue. Firefighters extinguished the hay bales that were on fire, and left the scene by 1:00 p.m. At around 2:14 p.m., multiple calls to 911 were received about fires north of the previous incident. Several fire departments were dispatched to the area, and spent the following 6 to 7 hours battling multiple fires in fields and farm structures. Crews worked the incident until about 9:00 p.m. Farm buildings, farm equipment, and some fields were either damaged or destroyed in the incident. Officials said that rumors of “numerous residences being damaged” by the fire were untrue. Conditions during the day on Friday were favorable for fires to spread, with wind gusts between 25 to 30 mph out of the south and southwest, along with relative humidity as low as 18%. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – At around 4:15 p.m. on Friday the Allamakee County Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch center received a report of a motorcycle accident on Great River Road, north of the intersection with Wexford Hollow Drive. Paul Robert Werner, a 62-year-old man from Shokapee, Minnesota, failed to turn with a left curve in the road and entered a ditch when he lost control of the motorcycle. Werner was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
