CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Reports of gunshots in a Cedar Rapids neighborhood led to an investigation on Saturday afternoon. At around 12:23 p.m., the Cedar Rapids Police Department was sent to a report of shots being fired near the intersection of Ninth Street NW and D Avenue NW. Officers arrived at the scene and found a vehicle and shed in the 500 block of Ninth Street NW with damage, along with shell casings behind a residence. About an hour later, around 1:10 p.m., a person arrived at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital with a gunshot wound that was described as non-life-threatening. Officials said that they believe this person was connected to the incident on Ninth Street NW. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – At approximately 3:41 p.m. Friday, Cedar Rapids Police responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment in the 4600 block of 1st Ave SW. Officers on scene found evidence of a shooting including damage to vehicles and a garage. Witnesses reported several subjects arriving just before the shots were fired and the same group quickly leaving the area shortly after. Witnesses also reported the gunfire came in their direction. Shortly after the incident, a juvenile male sought treatment at a nearby hospital for a wound to a lower extremity. Investigators believe this individual was at the scene as it unfolded. Any witnesses or persons with security footage are asked to come forward and contact police at 319-286-5491. This is an ongoing investigation.

JONES COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – At around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, 35-year-old James Daniel Minor from Olin drove his ATV off the road at the Olin Access Wildlife Management Area in Jones County when he hit an obstruction. Minor was declared dead at the scene. Jones County Sheriff helped the Iowa DNR at the scene.

BREMER COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – Around 3:52 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th, the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office responded after receiving a report of a 3 vehicle accident at State Highway 3 and Aspen Avenue. John Egts from Shell Rock, driving a 2019 Ford F150, was stopped, facing westbound on Highway 3 while waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before turning onto Aspen Avenue. Janette Shannon from Parkersburg, driving a 2002 Ford F150, approached Egts from behind and didn’t stop, hitting his car while he tried to turn onto Aspen Avenue. During the crash, Shannon’s side wheel and tire came off her vehicle and hit a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Jersey Rosteck of Parkersburg, that had been going east on Highway 3. Waverly Ambulance Service took Egts to the Waverly Health Center, he was eventually released with minor injuries. Clarksville Ambulance Service took Shannon to Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Eventually, she was also released with minor injuries. Rosteck didn’t report any injuries associated with the accident. During the initial investigation, investigators learned that Shannon had what was thought to be methamphetamine. In accordance with a search warrant, a sample of Shannon’s blood was taken for a drug test. The drugged driving investigation is on-going. Charges for operating while intoxicated are pending. Shannon has been charged with:

  • Failure to stop in assured clear distance (simple misdemeanor)
  • Possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense (Class D Felony)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)
