FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – On September 2nd, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 100 block of 7th St. N in Maynard. Upon search of the residence, authorities found illegal substances and items. A 4-month-old child was also present in the residence during the execution of the warrant. Officers observed garbage, diapers not disposed of, feces, and urine all inside the residence. It was found during the investigation process that Evans had custody of the child when the mother was away/gone. 37-year-old Jaron Evans and 19-year-old Karylann Lewin were both arrested and charged with Child Endangerment, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Officials say more charges are pending at this time.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – A plastic surgeon out of Des Moines has agreed to pay the United States and the State of Iowa in order to resolve allegations he wrongfully billed Medicare and Medicaid for services rendered by others. The government states that from 2013 to 2022 Dr. Ronald Bergman submitted inappropriate claims for payment in three separate ways to government healthcare programs. First, Bergman reportedly submitted claims to Medicare and Medicaid in his own name, when the services were actually rendered by auxiliary personnel and insufficient physician involvement. Second, those services were reportedly rendered by medical fellows without Bergman being present. Third, he reportedly submitted claims to Medicare for medically unnecessary and unreasonable applications of skin substitute products.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids Police officers who were involved in an August shooting that left a 22-year-old dead have been identified. Investigator Christopher Christy and Sergeant Bryson Garringer have been identified as being the officers involved in the incident that took place in the 5500 block of 6th Street SW on August 30th. In a news release, police said the two officers tried to detain William Rich as he brandished a weapon. Officers reportedly fired their weapons, killing him. An autopsy has been scheduled with the Iowa State Medical Examiner. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident. Both Investigator Christy and Sergeant Garringer remain on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the officer’s interviews along with the investigative facts will be forwarded to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office for review.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On July 30th, Cedar Rapids Police were involved in a shooting that occurred in the 2200 block of Glass Road NE during a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation 23-year-old Brandon Nelson was arrested on the following charges:
- 2 counts of Attempted Murder
- 2 counts of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon
- 3 counts of Assault on a Peace Officer with a Dangerous Weapon
- 2 counts of Interference with Official Acts While Armed with a Firearm
- Going Armed with Intent
- Persons Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons
- Eluding
- Reckless Driving
- Driving While Barred
