Good Fences
Most places where I have lived have had a fence of one sort or another…they’re pretty good about helping determine where lines are, both literally and figuratively. Once a dog became part of the family, a good fence was quite important…as was me learning how to fix weak spots in the fence after another successful escape.
I certainly see the value in them for protection…a deterrent to keeping people and things out. And I certainly don’t have a problem in the president–any president–installing a fence or wall or whatever to help with protecting him and his family from those who might do them harm.
I don’t even have qualms about the fact that taxpayers are spending a half million dollars for a fence to secure President Biden’s beach home…he’s there now, in fact. The home itself is worth $2.7 million.
Whenever I’ve been the one installing or fixing a fence at home, time was of the essence. But I’m not the government. The half million dollar project at the Biden vacation home started 11 months ago, last September…and is not due to be finished for another 10 months, next June.
When there was a threat to government officials–both members of Congress and justices of the Supreme Court–large fences were installed around those complexes to protect those who work there. Again, no problem with that, safety being important.
I only point it out because those in power have no problem finding the value of walls and fences when it impacts them and their families directly…but nearly 5 million people coming into this country illegally, impacting all of the rest of us, does not warrant fencing or walls–instead, the welcome mat is out.
I know, you’re no longer shocked by another striking example of government hypocrisy. That fact alone, that we are no longer shocked by it, is quite sad…while the hypocrisy itself is dangerous.
Unless you live at a Delaware beach house, however.
