Flying a Flag with Pride
Tomorrow is Flag Day, and our KXEL Poll Question of the Day today and tomorrow will be tied to the flag. You can vote as always at kxel.com/poll.
June has been designated “Pride Month” by presidential order, to support LGBTQ issues…complete with the so-called “rainbow flag” or “pride flag” with six horizontal stripes, each of a different color. There has been some conflict as supporters of the cause want governments to fly the “pride flag” alongside the state flag and the American flag. Some go along, some do not.
I wish I could claim credit for the following concept, but I saw it on social media and the original author was not included. But it’s a simple and good one.
The person indicated that she flew her “pride flag” every day–and posted a photo of her home with a bright American flag waving in the breeze. The idea is that whenever you see it, you feel a sense of pride as you remember how the country was founded, what it has stood for for nearly two and a half centuries, and those who fought to keep the United States the greatest nation in history.
That’s pretty powerful stuff. And without diminishing those who support the multi-colored flag and their efforts, this is a key time for us to remember the American flag and our justifiable pride in what it stands for and why it has always stood as a symbol of freedom throughout the world. If that’s your “pride flag”–then fly it proudly tomorrow, and for that matter, every day.
