Now Everyone’s Upset
I know I drink a lot of coffee, but these days, I think a lot of folks should dial back their caffeine intake.
Case number 1 comes from CBS News. The network hired former Trump Administration official Mick Mulvaney to comment as a representative of the political right during their news coverage. Mulvaney is no longer a favorite of the former president, so he’s hardly a mouthpiece for MAGA.
But the uproar within various corners of CBS was loud and angry. Some staffers went public with their so-called embarrassment, which was followed by the leaking of a recording of CBS News’ co-president where he said CBS would be hiring more Republicans since, in his words, “we know the Republicans are going to take over, most likely, in the midterms”. Even Stephen Colbert bit the hand that feeds him well, skewering the decision in a nightly monologue.
Case number 2 comes from NBC News. The parent company is hiring soon-to-be-former White House press secretary Jen Psaki. You might say that was just formalizing the current arrangement, where she says something and NBC airs it without challenge, but apparently the NBC News president had to hold a meeting with staff upset about the whole thing. The staff was told that Psaki’s role will be limited to MSNBC, the network that carries—in NBC’s words—perspective programming instead of news. NBC News apparently no longer has anything to do with MSNBC, and the claim is that Psaki will not appear on NBC itself. That still seemed like a distinction without a difference to many at NBC…and probably, to the general public as well.
Alright, everyone…calm down. If you want to get insight on politics, you need to ask folks who have recently been in the inner circle…and that means having folks from both sides of the political aisle.
It’s also nothing new…George Stephanopoulos is ABC’s chief political anchor, and he was a key Democrat operative.

It’s Friday. Folks, take a deep breath. And maybe switch to decaf.
