Maybe It’s Not So Innocent
It was on this date in 1732…290 years ago…that George Washington was born. He of course would go on to become the first president of the United States, among other things.
We discussed at this time yesterday how the national holiday was still Washington’s Birthday according to acts of Congress, not the so-called “President’s Day” that we’ve all been led to believe it is.
I make mention of that fact yearly, and sort of toss off any motive behind it because of how long it’s been since the collective phrase started being used.
But given the nature of revisionist history these days, and the sense that maybe all this indoctrination has been nefariously going on for decades longer than we think…I’m now firmly convinced that forces who are against the best interests of our country would like nothing more than to have the ideal of Washington stricken from our history and our consciousness.
Washington was known, for good reason, as the “Father of Our Country”—but that plays into a patriarchal white-supremacist narrative and we can’t have that. Better to focus on any failures he might have had, especially when viewed in light of today’s enlightenment instead of through the lens of that era.
And if we suggest that every president was just as good as any other…then it adds to the idea that there is no such thing as “American Exceptionalism” and that certain presidents were not themselves exceptional. Lincoln was nothing special; Pierce, Van Buren or Fillmore would have done just as well.
Except none of that is true. Washington, for example, certainly did not create the nation single-handedly…but to diminish his role is to be untrue to history and reality.
So named national holiday or not, it is worthwhile to take time today to cite George Washington as an example of why America is the greatest nation God has ever blessed…because it is full of examples of people who stood up when needed, answering the call to serve with their unique talents. They should be noted and respected…not subjected to a new narrative with an anti-American purpose.
