Here’s Something You Can Do
Over the past 15 months, since the 2020 election, lots of folks have expressed concern about the direction of our country, and ask, “what can I do about it?”
We’ve tried to make some suggestions, and will continue to do so. Today’s topic, for example.
“National Poll Worker Recruitment Day” was last week, an effort to get folks to help with this year’s primary and general elections.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate notes that our state needs 10,000 poll workers for each statewide election…10,000.
These are the folks on the frontline of election integrity. They check-in voters, make sure they have the correct ballot, answer questions, and generally make sure elections run smoothly in each precinct.
10,000 sounds like a lot, and it is…but consider that we have 99 counties, and each county has multiple precincts…so pretty soon, it makes sense that we need 100 people per county.
This is a paid position, but obviously you’re not going to get rich with a part-time job that lasts two days…the June 7 primary election and the November 8 general election.
But if we are concerned about election integrity, and we should be concerned…then why not get involved at the most basic level? If you are interested, go to a special website: pollworker.iowa.gov.
