New Year, New Station
Welcome to 2022. It’s a time for new beginnings, fresh starts.
So in that light…some news about this radio station.
This is KXEL’s 80th anniversary year…we went on the air on July 14, 1942 as the first 50,000-watt clear channel station in the country. Not long after that, on November 16, 1947, KXEL also put an FM station on the air…you know it today as 105.7 KOKZ.
Now, KXEL is back on FM…heard throughout the Cedar Valley at 100.5.
Our FM translator airs a full simulcast of our AM station…so the exact same great programming you hear on News/Talk 1540 can now also be heard on FM 100.5.
The difference is that while AM 1540 reaches virtually all of Iowa by day and half the country and part of Canada at night…FM 100.5 is designed to primarily serve the Waterloo and Cedar Falls areas.
It’s just one more way for us to provide this service, however you want…on AM radio, on FM radio, streaming from kxel.com, streaming via the KXEL mobile app, through smart speaker services like Google and Alexa…with additional information through social media including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Gettr, Parler, MeWe and LinkedIn…and online at kxel.com.
So welcome to our new arrival, born at 12:54 p.m. last Friday…and ready to serve the Cedar Valley at FM 100.5. Please give it a listen when you’re in the area, and let us know what you think, how it sounds, and how far away from here you can hear it.
