Dizzy…And Not From COVID
Pardon me if I’m a little dizzy. Perhaps it’s better to be called whiplash.
I’m talking about the statement made by President Biden yesterday regarding COVID-19. He literally told reporters the following: “There is no federal solution. This gets solved at a state level.”
My first reaction is…who are you, and what have you done with Joe Biden?
Never mind the fact that during last year’s campaign, the Biden-Harris team laid out a seven-point plan on the topic. Never mind that they campaigned on the failures of the Trump team to get COVID under control.
And never mind that in the 11 months Biden has been president, every decision made on the topic centered not on personal responsibility, not on adapting to fit situations, but instead fully on one-size-fits-all, top down, federal government policy…to the point of famously telling state governors who resisted to get out of the way and let the federal government lead.
But the science continues to prove all their attempts to be misguided. And now as more and more are figuring that out, comes the statement from the president that this is, his words again, “solved at a state level”.
As I write this yesterday afternoon, two scenarios are possible…one, the White House will try to amend or correct his remarks, with the old “what he meant to say was” routine…the other, that they’ll immediately remove all those federal mandates before the U.S. Supreme Court strikes them down within the next few days.
Of the two, my guess is the “what the president meant to say” approach is the one they’ll take…because otherwise it’s an admission that they so clearly and so fully were wrong to double down on policies even hours before Biden’s comment.
Regardless, it’s an even further erosion of what little credibility this administration had on the topic.
