Missing the Point
They still apparently don’t get it. I’m talking about the Biden Administration and the effort to, in their words, “get more shots in arms”…injecting more Americans with one of the COVID-19 vaccinations, and for those who’ve already had the jab, injecting them with a booster.
The president addressed the nation on the topic yesterday afternoon; they had leaked word about the plans to address COVID in a news release in the pre-dawn hours yesterday.
One of the things they are implementing is putting a large number of “pop up” vaccination centers across the country. In other words, even more places where you can get a vaccination.
And here’s where they miss the point. The failure of people to get vaccinated has nothing to do with access…it has to do with trustworthiness and credibility.
You can get a COVID shot at a doctor’s office, free clinic, pharmacy, many grocery stores, earlier this year at college football tailgate parties…they even held a drive thru vax center in the parking lot of a strip club in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon.
In short, if you want a shot, you can easily get one. Access is not the issue. And tossing some “pop up” clinics here and there is not going to change the situation.
That’s because those who have not gotten the shot don’t trust it…and they don’t trust those speaking for this Administration, from the president on down. They were the ones, after all, who in the middle of a political campaign declared they didn’t trust the vaccine since Donald Trump had something to do with it. Now, it’s all they can talk about.
And rather than offering guidance about safety or effectiveness, instead they threaten people and support rationing health care to the unvaxed who get sick. Coercion is not a good way to effect change.
So once again, in an effort to simply do something, this Administration is missing the point and doing the wrong thing. And no doubt they’ll double down on the plan when it fails, because that’s been their approach so far.
