Crime Does Pay

Much has been made of what may be a Biden Administration proposal to pay nearly a half million dollars to illegal immigrants who were separated from their children during processing during the Trump Administration. No payments to those who were subject to similar treatment under the Obama-Biden Administration…that’s where those cages came from, as you’ll recall.

Will it be that much? Or even more?

A new Trafalgar Group poll, in partnership with the Convention of States Action group, of more than 1,000 likely 2022 election voters shows those payments are a bad idea.

The poll, taken over four days including election day last week, shows 67 percent of Americans disapprove of the plan to pay $450 thousand to each immigrant…of those, 56 percent strongly disapprove. The idea is not terribly popular among Democrats either…46 percent say they don’t approve.

Never mind the quibbling over dollar amount. It’s the whole concept, given a fundamental premise: the money would go to people who willfully and openly broke the law. It’s against federal law to try to enter the country without proper paperwork. Now, you may say they are coming for a better life, or to avoid persecution at home…but that’s a mitigating circumstance regarding disposition and punishment, not something that should mean ignoring clear federal law.

We laugh when we hear stories of a burglar who sues a homeowner because the family dog bit the burglar while he was in the act of committing the crime…how ludicrous to think that someone who is breaking the law should be rewarded because the consequences of their original action didn’t turn out as they had planned.

Crime doesn’t pay? Ask those who are going to be stroked big checks from your tax dollars…all for violating federal law and subjecting their minor children to danger along the way.
