Falling Support
Yesterday, I shared information from a new Emerson College national poll suggesting that Democrats in Congress were not well thought of right now, and Republicans were becoming the majority choice of those surveyed.
It’s also pretty poor news for President Biden. His approval rating dropped five points in the same poll over a two month period…Biden now has only 41 percent approval, and now 50 percent disapproval. That’s a complete flip since inauguration day…then Biden had 49 percent approval and 39 percent disapproval.
And among key Democrat constituencies…the story is even worse. Biden’s support among black voters has dropped this year from 72 percent approval to only 52 percent…a huge amount. Support among Hispanics and whites has also dropped by 5-6 points each.
All that being said, Biden leads Donald Trump in a head to head “if the election were held today” match up, 45 to 43 percent…of course, we don’t elect presidents by popular vote, so you need to know the numbers state by state…but it’s still not helpful to Biden.
Interesting in such a polarized era, that same poll showed 11 percent said they’d vote for someone other than either Biden or Trump…not a small amount. Only 1 percent was undecided…so when more than a tenth of voters are looking for a third choice, it means a lot of unhappiness across the board.
