From the Associated Press:

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — An 18-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting in Fort Dodge Sunday. Fort Dodge police said the shooting was reported around 4:20 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived they found the man with gunshot wounds in his abdomen. The victim was taken to an area hospital and later flown to a hospital in Des Moines for treatment. Investigators determined that the shooting took place inside an apartment before the victim fled. He was found in a nearby parking lot. Police found a gun after the shooting and investigators interviewed witnesses on Sunday.

CLERMONT, Iowa (AP) — A man is dead after a farm accident in northeastern Iowa. Fayette County deputies responding to a 911 call Thursday afternoon found 38-year-old Evan Pape of Luana pinned between a corn wagon and his service truck in a cornfield near the town of Clermont. The sheriff’s department said in a posting on Facebook that Pape was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information was released.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A woman shot by a Des Moines police officer last month has been released from the hospital, and is now facing charges. KCCI-TV reports that 35-year-old Katherine Margaret Louise Mehle of Des Moines is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer with a dangerous weapon and interference with official acts with a weapon. The shooting on Oct. 5 followed a 911 call from a man who reported that a woman had tried to stab him on the sidewalk. An officer reported that Mehle advanced on him while ignoring his commands to drop the knife, leading him to shoot her.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Court hearings have been set for Nov. 12 for two Iowa teens charged with murder in the death of high school Spanish teacher Nohema Graber. Her family was left pondering what could have prompted such a violent act against Graber. Her daughter Nohema Marie Graber said in a Facebook posting that she and her two brothers “had the wonderful fortune of growing up in a home filled with such an abundance of warmth and love.” Court documents indicate Willard Noble Chaiden Miller and Jeremy Everett Goodale, both 16-year-old students at the high school where Graber taught, have been charged as adults with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities say a man who shot an air rifle at a squirrel in his yard unintentionally seriously wounded a Missouri man who was driving by. Authorities say 69-year-old Philip Olson, of Iowa City, turned himself in to police three days after the 20-year-old man was found Oct. 17 in a wrecked car with what looked like a gunshot wound to the head. The Cedar Rapids Gazette identified the victim as Gabriel Heefner, a lance corporal in the Marines. He remains hospitalized. Authorities say Olson was cited for violating city codes and faces several violations of state natural resources codes. Iowa law does not classify air guns as dangerous weapons.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed the state’s redistricting plan into law, finalizing the once-in-a-decade task complicated this year by late U.S. Census data that pushed the state past constitutional deadlines. Reynolds announced Thursday night she had signed legislation redrawing the legislative and congressional districts. The Iowa Legislature on Oct. 28 passed a redistricting plan created by the nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency. It was the second set of maps after Iowa Senate Republicans rejected the first plan drawn by the LSA on Oct. 5. The redistricting process was delayed this year because census data came in later than usual as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) — A 17-year-old from the southeastern Iowa town of Fort Madison is now charged in the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy. Authorities said Thursday that Dimari D.J. Meredith was charged with first-degree murder. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney. The victim’s name and information about a possible motive have not been disclosed. Officers were called to a home just after 5 p.m. Wednesday and found the victim in a bedroom. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say the weapon was found inside the victim’s home.
