He’s Not On The Ballot
Yesterday was election day…and to hear some Democrats, Donald Trump was on the ballot.
He was not, of course…but it shows just how short of ideas the party is, that when locked in a tight race, in state after state, and even city after city, Democrats tore into Trump instead of suggesting a positive agenda for moving forward.
That’s why Washington is such a mess right now…the only thing those disparate groups of Democrats had in common was defeating Trump. Once they did that…they found they didn’t have enough in common to adequately govern, at least not yet.
Each party has trigger words…some call them dog whistles…that they know will spur their faithful into action. For Republicans, it’s a name like Pelosi or a term like Marxists or socialists. For Democrats, it’s Trump.
Terry McAuliffe turned to anti-Trump language in the homestretch of his gubernatorial race in Virginia, trying to tie his opponent to #45. After all, it worked nicely for Gavin Newsom in California in overcoming recall and undermining Larry Elder. And it was even tried in the Cedar Rapids race for mayor, where one candidate said accurate reporting on her legal and financial troubles was a page from the Trump playback.
It may well still work…but when voters go to the polls to vote against Trump and don’t see him on the ballot…how many make the full connection to vote for the correct person, in that scenario?
