Rally in Iowa

Tomorrow, the eyes of the political world will again be on Iowa as the 45th—and perhaps 47th—President of the United States, Donald Trump, holds a “Save America” rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

You heard us talk about it with the former president’s chief spokesperson, Liz Harrington, on KXEL yesterday.

If you’re attending, plan on making a day of it. The gates open at 2 p.m., a full five hours before the president is scheduled to speak. During that time, there will be music and lots of speech-making by GOP officeholders in Iowa—including folks on the ballot in 2022 like Gov. Reynolds, Ag Secretary Naig, Sen. Grassley, Rep. Miller-Meeks and Rep. Hinson, plus others.

A large crowd is expected, and if past events are any guide, the TV ratings will be huge, on Newsmax, One America News, and Real America’s Voice.

It will be interesting to see who gets the worst time from Trump…President Biden, or Senate Minority Leader McConnell, who caved on raising the debt ceiling this week. Could be a toss up.

Some news accounts previewing the Trump visit note the number of other possible 2024 candidates who have made their way to our state. But it’s still clear, you could add up the crowds of all the others combined and still not get anywhere close to the total Trump will get…which, along with the list of speakers eager to talk to that crowd, tells you all you need to know about the state of the Republican Party today.
