News to Us
One more item about some changes here on the radio station, if you’ll permit me.
This one is about some new voices to the radio…but not at all new to you.
Soon you’ll be hearing radio newscasts from our coverage partners at KCRG-TV9. They are working with KXEL exclusively, to bring stories prepared by their extensive team of news professionals to our audience. Their newsroom is staffed 24 hours a day, so if something happens, they’ll know…and so will you.
That means you’ll hear Beth Malicki, Chris Earl, Jackie Kennon, Jay Greene and more every weekday, and only on the radio on KXEL. It’s a great extension of our long-standing partnership with TV9 for weather forecasts and wall-to-wall severe weather coverage when emergency situations happen. For years, you’ve rewarded their hard work by making them the most watched news and weather station in Eastern Iowa, so we’re pleased they have agreed to work with us on this new arrangement.
That will allow Tim Harwood and me to focus on our new daily programs…for Tim, the KXEL Morning News weekdays from 6 until 8 a.m., and for me, an expansion of KXEL Live & Local from 8 until 11 a.m., with those changes starting right after the Labor Day holiday on Tuesday.
Breaking news changes everything, as they say in broadcasting…and expanding TV9’s role with our news coverage will help us better bring all of it to you.
