One person died and two others were injured in a two vehicle collision over the noon hour yesterday. A vehicle traveling west on Black Hawk County Road C57 failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a car traveling north.  

A man went to the hospital after a shooting in Cedar Rapids last night. Police said it happened around 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of 10th Street Northwest. That’s not far from Harrison Elementary. When officers arrived, they found shell casings. While they were investigating, a man walked to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He’s expected to survive. His name has not been released and there have been no arrests made in this incident. 

The Federal Aviation Administration today confirmed that two people died in the plane crash that occurred in Lamoni yesterday morning. According to the FAA report, the single-engine plane attempted to land, but took off immediately and appeared to stall on departure, resulting in the crash. The pilot and one passenger died. 

A Webster City man has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for mail fraud after pleading guilty to an unemployment insurance fraud scheme. Jerry Johnson was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Sioux City on the charge after entering the plea in January. Federal prosecutors say he used a credit union account to receive more than $31,000 in unemployment insurance money he was not entitled to. It was paid out by the state of Washington as benefits to those unemployed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Johnson also was ordered to pay restitution to the State of Washington and must serve a two-year term of supervised release after the prison term.  

Police are investigating after a body was found along a rural road in southwestern Iowa. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the body was found yesterday along the road in rural Adair County. Investigators have not provided details about the discovery or the person found, saying only that the victim was an adult and the death is being investigated as suspicious. The site where the body was found is about 60 miles southwest of Des Moines.  

A 72-year-old North Liberty man has been arrested for crimes related to prostitution. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Larry Joseph Baxter, a property manager, offered female tenants’ money and favors in exchange for sex. Baxter is facing three counts of prostitution.
