The man accused of shooting a Linn County Sheriff’s deputy, leading to a more than 12-hour long manhunt, is facing charges of attempted murder and first degree robbery. 36-year-old Stanley Donahue of Chicago is accused of shooting a Linn County deputy several times when the deputy responded to a robbery in progress at the Casey’s in Coggon shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Donahue left in a van but was seen by another responding deputy, who pursued him until the van crashed on North 3rd Street in Coggon. Donahue left on foot. Law enforcement agencies from across Eastern Iowa assisted in the search. The manhunt ended when a TV9 news crew spotted a man who matched Donahue’s description walking along Highway 13 near Coggon at about 12:40 p.m. yesterday. Donahue was taken into custody without incident and is in the Linn County Jail. The deputy was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Officials said he suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition.

A woman who used to work at an Iowa hospital has been sentenced to five years of probation for improperly accessing her ex-boyfriend’s medical records and distributing a photo of his injuries. Federal prosecutors said the woman, who now lives in Las Vegas, admitted to wrongfully accessing her ex-boyfriend’s records in 2017 while she worked a hospital in Cedar Rapids. Prosecutors say the 41-year-old woman took a picture of a medical photo and sent it to another person. That third person then sent the photo back to the ex-boyfriend on Facebook messenger with taunting language and emojis.

A former Cedar Falls woman has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for hitting a teen on a moped and leaving him to die in 2018. 27-year-old Kelli Jo Michael of Des Moines admitted to one count of homicide by vehicle. A count of leaving the scene of a fatal crash remains pending and will be dismissed if Michael does not appeal. Sentencing was yesterday in Fayette County District Court in West Union. Authorities say Michael was texting while driving on Highway 150 south of Fayette on the night of June 28, 2018, when she struck 14-year-old Kaiden Estling of Maynard. The case remained unsolved for two years before Michael was eventually charged in June of last year. Under the plea agreement, fines in the case are suspended but Michael was assessed $150,000 in restitution payable to Estling’s estate. She also waived her right to have the sentence reconsidered as part of the agreement.

An early morning fire in a kitchen at a Cedar Rapids apartment resulted in no injuries. At around 12:30 early Sunday morning, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department was sent to a report of a fire in an apartment at 830 Bridgit Lane SE. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire within the kitchen in the unit, which had caused moderate fire damage in the immediate area and smoke damage throughout the apartment. Officials believe the fire started when the person inside the unit fell asleep while cooking. The person woke up after the smoke detector went off, which officials believe likely saved their life.

A 16-year-old girl was injured in a shooting late Sunday night at a carnival in the parking lot of Southridge Mall in Des Moines. It happened around 10:30 p.m. as the carnival was closing down.
