Take Today Off
By now, given how crazy this world can be sometimes, I should know better than to joke about something ridiculous happening…because then, it often does.
Yesterday, I talked about the new national holiday that Congress passed, and I joked that if the president hurried up and signed the bill, perhaps we’d get the day off on Monday since June 19th fell on a Saturday this year.
Well, he signed the bill…and the federal government promptly announced it was taking today off in honor of the new national holiday…since it’s actually tomorrow and tomorrow is a weekend.
Word came that the bill was signed, and within an hour I got an email about it. As a lawyer, I get emails to my personal account from the federal and state courts. There it was, announcing that the federal courthouses in Iowa would be closed today…just a few hours’ worth of notice.
Amazing how you can wait seemingly forever for the federal government to do something…but when it comes time to take a day off, those running the place can act with tremendous swiftness.
Of course, that means that a so-called emergency hearing to discuss the adverse impact of COVID-19 vaccines in children was postponed…the emergency hearing that was set for two weeks after news broke of the problem. No matter about health risks to young people, let’s make sure woke politicians get to take a victory lap and add a holiday during one of the rare months on the calendar without one.
This is the America those now in power in Washington want. Is that what you want?
