UPDATE: Due to the Limbaugh program ending earlier than the syndicator had originally disclosed…the last Rush Limbaugh program will air on Friday, June 18…and Glenn Beck returns on Monday, June 21.
Here’s What’s Next
Yesterday, I shared with you the news that the final Rush Limbaugh program on KXEL will air on Friday, June 25th.
After Rush announced his illness, after we got over the shock, radio folks across the country started to make plans. Decisions like this—how to replace the highest-rated program on a radio station, how to fill the shoes of a legend—are never easy, and are never made by one person. In our case though, as opposed to other stations, the decision was made by upper management here in Eastern Iowa.
We wanted to bring you someone you would feel comfortable with, someone with credentials consistent with the other national programming you hear on the station. It’s too important a role to trust to someone who is new at doing radio, or whose political leanings are not well established. And doing a three-hour live radio show is far different than a recorded one-hour podcast.
So with those thoughts in mind…we invite you to tune in for the return of the Glenn Beck Program on KXEL, beginning Monday, June 28th at 11 a.m.
Many of you listened to Mr. Beck’s program on KXEL in the past. In early 2015, new management at the time suggested listeners might enjoy Laura Ingraham’s radio program more, so her program was put on instead. And it’s true, more of you did listen to her…but we know Mr. Beck remained very popular through his website and Blaze TV.
That’s why we are bringing him back to KXEL, airing in the time slot where you’ve found Rush Limbaugh all these years. As always, we welcome your feedback…you can contact me directly by email, jeff@kxel.com, by phone at 319-234-2200 extension 128, or by text at 319-235-1540. I’ll share all your comments with our management.
But the headline is “Beck is Back” on KXEL…starting Monday, June 28 at 11 a.m.
