UPDATE: Due to the Limbaugh program ending earlier than the syndicator had originally disclosed…the last Rush Limbaugh program will air on Friday, June 18…and Glenn Beck returns on Monday, June 21.
Our Final Farewell
On February 17th, Rush Hudson Limbaugh III left this Earth. It’s a loss we all still feel each and every day.
Some radio stations tried to get out of their contracts, or jumped to another program after Mr. Limbaugh’s passing. But we felt we owed it to his legacy…and to you, his loyal listeners…to continue airing these “Best of Rush” programs with guide hosts, to help us remember his wisdom one last time.
But the syndicator tells us the show will soon come to an end. And so it’s time for us all to say goodbye.
After nearly 30 years on this station, most of the time live at 11 a.m. …the final edition of the Rush Limbaugh program on News/Talk 1540 KXEL will air on Friday, June 25th. We wanted to tell you now, so you’d have plenty of notice.
I’ll share news of what will be airing in that time period going forward tomorrow…today, though, is about Rush.
I worked at a college with a man who had a stellar journalism career and then went into teaching. He and Rush didn’t see eye to eye on many issues, and there were days he’d come into my office madder than a hornet because of something he heard Rush say while he was driving back from lunch. Sometimes I’d point out that he could change the channel…to which he’d often say, “Yes, but he’s so damn good at what he does.”
The program may come to an end in a little more than four weeks…but his wisdom, teaching, and spirit will live on in our hearts, and in our minds, forever. He single-handedly changed this medium, and literally saved AM radio from extinction.
We’re glad we were able to bring you Rush live all these years…and join with you in listening for this final month.
