For Protection
Much has been made about the fact that a Casey’s location in Iowa City has had an armed guard in place in the wake of a number of disturbances at the location in 2018…but no armed guards at their other locations in the area.
Critics say it sends a bad signal, since the part of town with the guarded Casey’s is 25 percent black, according to the census tract for the neighborhood.
I seriously doubt Casey’s was looking at census data when they decided to post a guard at the store. They suggested they instead were looking at the number of issues that came up in the store, putting their business and their employee’s in harm’s way.
And it would appear that it worked, since the number of police calls to three Casey’s locations in Iowa City are about the same…no one has appreciably more calls than the other.
That’s something that the critics are now using against Casey’s…suggesting that it’s all based on race.
Why did banks used to have armed security guards on full display in banks? To deter people from robbing the banks. You don’t see the guards now, because of the advancement of electronic alarms and the like. But it did work as a deterrence.
Apparently so here…they had a lot of police calls, they put a guard in place, then the number of police calls dropped.
But the woke folk say everything is racial, so the guard has to go so as not to offend those in the neighborhood.
If I’m running the store, and I can’t take whatever measures I need to in order to protect my employees and my investment, I’m closing the store.
Having no place to shop, I’m guessing, would offend the neighborhood more than having a guard make sure things don’t get out of hand.
