If He Did It, It’s Wrong
The latest executive order issued by the Biden Administration rescinds the executive order signed by Donald Trump to establish a “National Garden of American Heroes”.
The Trump order was in great part in response to the vandals who ripped down statues in cities across the country last summer, often without being able to identify why that particular statue was targeted.
Granted, there was never any funding appropriated for the effort, and certainly no chance that those now in charge of Congress would have ever gone along. So it was probably not necessary to rescind executive orders that had no impact.
But those now in the White House can’t pass up a chance to scrub any trace of the Trump presidency from the books, so rescinding the order seems consistent.
As I noted on Twitter this past weekend, maybe it’s time for a private group to take up the charge…for citizens themselves to create their own “National Garden of American Heroes” without government funding or interference. With all the wasteful spending going on in D.C. these days, perhaps it’s not something taxpayers should pay for anyway.
Instead of expensive full statues, maybe just plaques commemorating these great citizens and their work. You could post them along a trail or a park…whoops, those are typically public places.
Maybe a building owner could dedicate a floor or set of rooms for what becomes gallery space. Then again, those intent on destroying our history would probably vandalize the markers and try to cancel the business owner.
Perhaps online? Wait, big tech would take it down.
Well, you get the idea. Honoring those who came before is a tremendously valid project. But since #45 came up with the concept…it obviously has to be stopped.
