One person was injured in a drive-by shooting in northeast Cedar Rapids just before 10:30 Monday morning. Witnesses say shots were fired from a car at a person walking in the area of the 3700 block of Blairs Ferry Road NE. They also gave police a description of the suspect’s vehicle. A Hiawatha police officer arrested the driver a short distance away. The victim in the shooting, 30-year-old Terrell Taylor, went to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Then Taylor was arrested on a separate warrant for second degree robbery through the Iowa City Police Department. Charges are pending for the suspect in the drive-by shooting. Police believe this appears to be a targeted incident.

The University of Northern Iowa has announced Dr. José Herrera, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, is the third finalist in the search for its next Provost. Dr. Herrera began his remote interview yesterday and will continue today, meeting with faculty, staff, students, and other members of the campus community. Herrera is one of four candidates invited to participate in the final round of interviews.

The Iowa State Patrol says a person driving an ATV lost control on a curve in Delaware County, leading to an accident that killed one person. It happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday on Wood Edge Drive near Edgewood. Officials say a 25-year-old Edgewood woman was driving the ATV. First responders took her to the hospital. 32-year-old Jordan Cabalka from Edgewood was a passenger, and died as a result of the incident. Both people were thrown from the ATV when it rolled.

Authorities confirm that one person died in a single-engine plane crash in rural Tiffin on Sunday. Shortly before 4 p.m., the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a plane crash at 250th Street and Greencastle Ave NW. 911 calls from witnesses said that airplane was seen near the Green Castle Airport and, shortly after, the plane crashed into a neighboring farm field. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

A Waterloo man has been charged with drunken driving after he crashed into a house over the weekend. 19-year-old Yannick Mbambi was headed north on West Ninth Street around 3 o’clock early Sunday morning when he lost control of his vehicle, which then crashed into the porch of a residence in the 1500 block of W. Ninth St. Mbambi backed out and parked on the street, according to police. No one was injured. A breath test indicated a blood-alcohol level of .135, so police charged Mbambi with first-offense operating while intoxicated.

The Hudson Police Department is investigating a threat against the school after the police chief received a tip late Saturday evening. Hudson school officials said Chief Daniel Banks notified them immediately to assure them an investigation was underway. They did not specify which school was affected by the threat.  At this time, police said there is no immediate threat to the school, students and staff in the district, but some parents did keep their children home from school Monday.

One person was taken to the hospital after colliding with a Traer ambulance at a Waterloo intersection Saturday afternoon. Officials say the ambulance was transporting a patient to UnityPoint-Allen Hospital in Waterloo and had lights and sirens in operation as it headed north on Sergeant Road around 3 p.m. Saturday. The ambulance had a red light at the West Third Street intersection and slowed to about 40 mph, according to the accident report. A vehicle driven by 53-year-old Louise Denise Brown of Waterloo was heading west on West Third Street, and the two vehicles collided with the Brown vehicle rolling onto its roof. Paramedics with Waterloo Fire Rescue took Brown to a hospital. The ambulance driver, 55-year-old Marnie Edgerly of Traer, and the patent onboard were not injured. Waterloo medics took the patient to UnityPoint-Allen Hospital.

A man has been arrested after police say he shot at a woman he lives with. This happened just before 3:30 Friday afternoon. Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Linden Avenue for reports of a woman’s face bleeding from broken glass. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 35-year-old Skylar Williams-Rankin of Waterloo was charged with domestic assault with intent and willful injury causing serious injury, which is a felony. Officers did not find any shell casings.
