Second Opinion
I have complete trust in my doctor, but any time something significant has come up, he’s suggested a second opinion with an expert. So far, so good.
The government folks don’t want you to seek a second opinion when it comes to COVID-19. The president keeps saying “trust the science” and “trust Dr. Fauci”…but the science is far from settled, and it’s hard to trust Dr. Fauci when he’s been all over the board on this in the past 15 months.
Let’s be clear, I give those who have tried to formulate policy during the pandemic a lot of room…they were dealing with something they hadn’t seen before, and most of them were acting in the beginning solely with the best interests of the public at heart.
But we’re long past that point, and the noise from Washington is–not surprisingly–being ignored. Masks don’t work…or perhaps wear three of them; once we get the vaccine, we can get back to normal…or you have to keep wearing masks even after you get the shot; get the shot and you can join family for Independence Day…or maybe just a small group can get together at a distance.
And, if we try to get a second opinion…then the discussion is stifled, erased from social media, and you’re called an anti-vaxxer, a hater, or worse.
So this has to do with our health, individually and collectively, right? Then why not allow second opinions…and even third and fourth opinions? Unless, of course, it no longer has to do with our health, and more with those in power trying to grab more and more of it from us.
