Race Bait Opportunity
The murder of eight people in Atlanta earlier this week was unnecessary and tragic. It also predictably became used by opportunists.
Naturally, those who want to outlaw guns used it as another example to support their cause.
And those who like to separate us based on race quickly made presumptions to fit their narrative.
So, some facts. The shooter was a Caucasian male. He apparently frequented these so-called spas…where also apparently, more than merely massages were given. He told authorities he had a sex addiction and was trying to avoid temptation.
Seven of the eight killed were women; six of those of Asian descent, while the other was Caucasian. The eighth murder victim was a Caucasian male. A second male, apparently of Hispanic descent, was injured.
Immediately, to some, this became an attack based on skin color and national origin. And it became a way for the White House to blame the former president.
There is obviously great sadness among Asian-Americans in that area and beyond, and for good reason. Not only for the loss of life, but for how those women came to be employed in the way they were.
But to simply say it’s a White guy killing Asian women may be missing the mark. It diminishes the loss of the non-Asian victims. And it may very well falsely explain the motive…occupation, not skin color.
That might make a difference, and actually be a more accurate way to tell the story. But for those with a divisive agenda, the easy narrative works better.
