No Courage, No Convictions

Nancy Pelosi was re-elected Speaker of the House Sunday afternoon, by the slimmest of margins…only one vote. From her standpoint, a win’s a win, and she’s right.

But the actions of one of the high profile younger members stood out. Yes, I’m again talking about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, on Twitter @AOC…just don’t call her that in real life anymore.

She got into some trouble during an interview saying it was time for Pelosi, and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer for that matter, to step aside.

When it came time to vote for Speaker on Sunday, five Democrats did not vote for Pelosi. Any more, and she’d lose.

So when @AOC’s turn came, and her name was called…she was nowhere to be found. She only cast her vote at the end…getting praise for putting Pelosi over the top…but showing absolutely no conviction or courage.

She waited to see if it was “safe” for her to vote against Pelosi. If a majority would already have been reached, she’d have noted “no” to remain that outside voice, the champion of change. But since her vote really did matter, she fell in line, playing the swamp game.

So much for purity of intention, so much for being an agent of change. Just another swamp monster, a calculated politician as opposed to public servant.
