Speaker Speaking Truth, Accidentally
Sometimes, in a rare moment, a politician will answer a question and the truth will slip out…exposing their unabashedly craven political motives.
Such was the case Friday, with Speaker Pelosi held a news conference and indicated after months of vehement opposition to any covid relief legislation of less than a trillion dollars…she was now in favor of a plan just short of that amount.
When asked why, she accidentally spoke the truth: “because we have a new president”.
It was obvious all along that she was willing to hold such legislation hostage, with a demand so high there was no way Republicans would go along, because she thought it would hurt Donald Trump in the election. Never mind the harm to Americans or their businesses. Never mind the idea of a smaller bill now, with more to possibly come…for her, it was all or nothing then.
Not now, of course, and she’s admitted it. When a CNN reporter asked since, she was changing her position, if it was a mistake to hold out for more before, she verbally attacked the reporter for daring to use the word mistake. “It was a decision, and it has taken us to a place where we can do the right thing without other, shall we say, considerations in the legislation that we don’t want.” Considerations, as in, it would have made Trump look good.
Again, the news here is not that it was happening, because we all knew that…it’s how quickly she admits it now, and how quickly she attacks those who expose it.
I don’t know how we get government working for the citizens again, because it’s been so long since that’s been the norm. But I do know it’s not by having those same folks still be in charge.
